What is Cloud NAT?

  • Cloud NAT allows the instances to communicate with the internet without having an external IP address. It provides private connectivity for VM Instances, GKE, Cloud Run, App Engine, Cloud Functions

  • Cloud NAT is not a device, it is a distributed software that is configured on a Cloud Router.

  • It is more secure in cases when your VMs need internet connectivity only for updates.

  • A VM can communicate with the internet with either external IP or Cloud NAT.

  • Don't be confused with Private Google Access which is used when your VM Instance doesn't have external IP and you need to access Google APIs

Lab Tasks:

  1. Creating a Cloud Router.

  2. Creating a Cloud NAT Gateway.

  3. Creating a VM Instance and testing.
